NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

What is The National Development Plan (NDP)?

NDP is a medium-term strategic planning document for the period from 2007 till 2013. It is a compass that provides the main directions of Latvia’s development, and sets the most important tasks for the state as well as for public on the way towards the further goal to be reached by politicians, state officials and all and every citizen of Latvia, as only a strong, unitary and self-confident society is able to reach a goal.

NDP underlines several turning points:

·     a turning point in attitude, as it seeks to find answers on questions that are important for all the people of Latvia: What should Latvia be like? How to ensure national competitiveness? What should the people – the developers of Latvia’s future - be

      like?

·     a turning point in planning, as it is based on long-term objective and sets a medium term strategy to reach the objective,

·     a turning in public participation, as it enhances the creation of uniform perception and involvement of all the society.

To provide answers on these questions and to promote co-ordinated and rapid national growth, NDP sets the strategic goal and priorities:

Education and knowledge for economic growth and technological prominence:

  • Educated and creative personality
  • Technological prominence and flexibility industries
  • Development of science and research
